Your files never leave your device.
Reads and displays PDF metadata (page count, title, author, dates). The file is never modified or uploaded.
Document Inspector reads a PDF's metadata without modifying it: page count, file size, title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and creation or modification dates. The probe runs locally with pdf-lib and produces no download because nothing is changed. Values are shown as stored — missing fields are reported as not set rather than invented.
How it works
How to use Document Inspector
- 1Drop your PDF. Drag and drop a PDF, or choose one from your device.
- 2Read the document card. The tool reports page count, file size and the Info dictionary fields in a result card.
- 3Act on the findings. Use the result to decide whether to edit or remove metadata, or simply confirm what a file contains.

- No upload — the PDF is inspected locally
Limitations
Things to know

- Encrypted PDFs may fail to open without the password
- Author-provided metadata can be inaccurate or intentionally misleading
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does the inspector change my file?
No. It only reads metadata and page count. There is no download because no output file is created.
Why are some fields empty?
Many PDFs never set title, author or keywords. The inspector reports those fields as not set instead of filling them with guesses.
Does it show XMP metadata?
No. It reads the classic Info dictionary. XMP streams are a separate metadata container and are not displayed.
Is metadata uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened and inspected in your browser; no metadata or file content is sent to a server.
